About
Written by a practitioner, for practitioners.
These guides are written by an in-house export control officer based in Europe, who handles EAR and ITAR obligations from the non-US side of the transaction every day.
They are the documents we wished we had: methods that hold up in an audit, worksheets that force the right questions, and real cases instead of slogans.
exportcontrol.io is an independent publication, written in a personal capacity. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by any employer or government agency.

FAQ
Questions buyers ask
Is this legal advice?
No. The guides provide general information on US export control regulations as they stood at their verification date. For a specific product or transaction, consult qualified counsel.
Who are the guides written for?
Export control professionals in companies outside the United States, and in US-owned affiliates abroad. Procurement, engineering and logistics teams will also find resources adapted to their tasks.
What exactly do I receive?
A print-ready A4 PDF with its worked examples, the tools printed in the guide and its dated sources. Each guide page lists its editable files with their status: files marked “in preparation” are not included yet. A De Minimis purchase includes the English and French editions.
What happens when the rules change?
Each edition carries the date its references were checked, and changes between editions are documented. Revisions are included for 12 months after purchase. You keep the version you downloaded; after 12 months, access to future revisions can be renewed or obtained through the library subscription.
What if you find a significant error?
We correct it and inform the buyers concerned, even when their 12 months of revisions have ended.
Do you review our own files or transactions?
No. No validation of a transaction, a classification or a license is included. Included support covers access to your files, technical problems and error reports.
Can my team share one copy?
No: each purchase is for one user. A Team Library for five named users in one company is planned. Join the list and choose “Team” to tell us your team needs it.
How is the library organised?
In four sections: understanding the rules, managing transactions, building your compliance programme and exploring by industry. Each guide sits in one category, and filters by regulation, role, level, resources and industry help you find it.
What is in the Starter Pack?
ITAR-Free and De Minimis, for instead of bought separately. The two guides answer different questions, and the pack does not cover every way US controls can apply. Topic packs of three complementary guides, at , will follow as the library grows.

A yearly subscription to every guide in the library, with its tools, new publications and revisions, planned at per year for one user. It is coming soon: join the list to hear when it opens.
Will I get an invoice with my VAT number?

Are the guides available in French?
